Introduction

What started as a deeply personal journey became a mission much bigger than our family. The Luckiest Light was created from a belief that every person deserves to be seen, celebrated, and given opportunities to shine exactly as they are. Through art, advocacy, and community connection, we’ve built more than a gallery, we’ve created a space where creativity and inclusion live side by side.

At the heart of everything we do is inspiration drawn from our personal experience as parents of a 10 year old daughter, Nora with Down syndrome and an 8 year old son, Isaac who does not have a disability. Our children have inspired the way we approach inclusion, advocacy, and the future we hope to help build for generations to come.

The Luckiest Light is a Nonprofit ran by a mother and community of selfless volunteers who share in the belief that inclusion is a responsibility of everyone and not a charity.

The Story Behind The Luckiest Light & Isaac’s aNORAble Homes

The Luckiest Light began with a vision to advocate through art and inclusive experiences. As a mother navigating the realities of raising children with and without disabilities, I quickly realized how few spaces truly centered inclusion in a meaningful, everyday way. Art became one of the most powerful bridges, a language that created connection without limits.

Through our experiences as a family, we saw the need for environments where individuals with disabilities are safe, included, and treated with dignity. We wanted to advocate through an unforgettable experience, which began with an Airbnb we named Isaac’s aNORAble Homes. The initiative was rooted in creating a stay where every bedroom is decorated with artwork created by artists with disabilities, every stay helps fund fully sponsored art programs, and every room provides resources that educate visitors about our journey as parents to our daughter, Nora.

After an overwhelmingly positive response to Isaac's aNORAble Home, the vision grew into The Luckiest Light studio and art gallery, located in the heart of Havre de Grace, Maryland.

Today, The Luckiest Light is a Nonprofit where artists with and without disabilities can create side by side, with optional support from occupational therapists and master artists. Artists also have opportunities to sell their work for meaningful employment and volunteer as gallery hosts, creating opportunities for visitors to learn directly from adults who choose to share their stories, perspectives, and creative work with the community.

How Has Running The Luckiest Light Influenced Motherhood?

Motherhood changed everything about the way I see the world, and it absolutely shaped the way I built The Luckiest Light.

We run the studio and gallery with patience, flexibility, advocacy, and grace for everyone who walks through our doors. Empathy and dignity are always at the forefront of our work. We want every person who enters The Luckiest Light to immediately feel welcomed, valued, and never judged.

At the same time, running The Luckiest Light has strengthened me as a parent. It introduced us to an incredible community of artists, families, educators, and advocates who remind us daily that we are not alone in this journey. It has shown our family the power of vulnerability, storytelling, and collective support.

Most importantly, it has taught us that inclusion is not charity. It is community building and a shared responsibility. When communities become more inclusive, everyone benefits. It is such an honor to see women with Down syndrome leave the studio and navigate the city of Havre de Grace safely because they are welcomed and respected.

What Are We Currently Working On?

Right now, we’re focused on continuing to grow both The Luckiest Light and Isaac’s aNORAble Homes in ways that create lasting impact on travelers and artists.

We’re developing more opportunities for artists and creatives to share their work in an inclusive environment, connect with the community, and gain visibility through collaborative exhibitions and events. We’re also expanding conversations around supportive resources and long term planning for families navigating disability and neurodivergence.

In addition, we continue to use art and inclusive experiences as tools for education, awareness, and connection while also providing meaningful employment opportunities for artists with disabilities.

We are also incredibly excited to celebrate our upcoming one year anniversary. It’s hard to believe how much growth, connection, and impact has happened in such a short time, and we are deeply grateful for the artists, families, and supporters who continue to believe in this mission.
