What is the Harford Nature Collaborative?

The Harford Nature Collaborative was created to bring together local organizations that would collaborate in a common mission: providing nature-based educational and outdoor experiences to the citizens of Harford County by utilizing the natural resources, parks, and open spaces in Harford County.

Why is a connection with nature important for families in Harford County?

In a world filled with screens and packed schedules, spending time outdoors offers families a chance to slow down, reconnect, and explore together. Studies continue to show that time in nature can support physical health, emotional wellness, creativity, and learning — especially for children.

The Harford Nature Collaborative believes that access to nature should be available to everyone and that even small outdoor experiences can spark lifelong appreciation for the environment. Whether it’s a quiet creekside walk, a child’s first experience spotting wildlife, or volunteering to help restore native habitats, those moments help strengthen both community and connection to the natural world. One major goal of the Collaborative, in order to establish this connection, is to be the “GO TO” place to learn about what is going on in outdoor and nature based programs in Harford County. The Collaborative hosts an on line calendar that list all events, programs, and outdoor adventures that our members are having, along with a Facebook page and Instagram page.

The collaborative includes a wide variety of community partners, including environmental organizations, parks and recreation groups, conservation advocates, educators, and nature centers. Together, they work to inspire residents of all ages to explore, appreciate, and protect the outdoors.

The Collaborative’s purpose is to:

From bird watching and hiking to gardening workshops, homeschool programs, mindfulness walks, and volunteer opportunities, the collaborative helps families discover just how many ways there are to connect with nature right here in Harford County.

What is the Collaborative currently working on?

One of the collaborative’s biggest focuses is creating stronger connections between local organizations and the public so families can more easily discover outdoorprograms, educational experiences, and volunteer opportunities happening throughout Harford County.

Many member organizations are also working on initiatives that support conservation, native habitats, environmental stewardship, and wellness through nature.
