Reflections and Updates from the Publisher

By Julia Capallo, Publisher | Macaroni KID Bel Air, MD June 10, 2026

Hello! If you’re new here, welcome! If you’ve been reading my newsletter and/or following along with Macaroni KID Bel Air social media for a little while now, thank you for your continued support! I’m taking this opportunity to share a re-introduction for those of you who do not know me and my role with Macaroni KID Bel Air.

I’m Julia, and I wear a lot of hats as many of you likely do! My hobbies include writing, creating art, hula hooping, gardening, traveling, and going to concerts. One of my goals for this year was to read more.. so far, so good! My family and I moved to Harford County last spring, and I hit the ground running getting involved in the community. I joined the Harford County Chamber of Commerce shortly after we settled into our new home, and joined as a member of the PTA at my son’s school.

I have two children, ages 3 and 6, with birthdays coming up in September. I am the founder of A Marvelous Spark Creative Studio, specializing in graphic design and brand development/strategy. I support small businesses in effectively reaching their audiences through consistent visuals, messaging, and storytelling. When the Macaroni KID publisher role opened up in our area, I knew it would be a great opportunity and serve as another way to boost visibility of local businesses and organizations. I’m passionate about connecting people and supporting our local community. After organizing my first event in Harford County (Spring into Wellness Community Fair), I’m excited to collaborate and continue bringing people together through similar events.

What you can expect from the Macaroni KID Bel Air publications:

Some of my goals through Macaroni KID Bel Air publications include:

  • Sharing local stories- There are several in the Articles section on our website and on the landing page. Macaroni KID HQ also shares other relevant articles of interest. Some of our recent articles include information about The Harford Nature Collaborative and The Luckiest Light Gallery.
  • Sharing curated lists of family-friendly events- Each week, I send out an e-newsletter full of upcoming local events. I typically focus on free/low-cost events, as I know the cost ticketed events can really add up for families. I’ve also been doing Weekend Roundup posts on social media to share information. The full calendar of events is a work in progress as I get accustomed to the new format.
  • Providing resources for families- My hope is that the local Guides that the previous publishers and I have developed serve as practical resources for local families.
  • Sharing event recaps- I’ve grown fond of documenting fun, local events and sharing recaps on social media through videos and photos. I aim to balance both experiencing moments and capturing them.
  • Hyper-local, cost-effective advertising & marketing- I understand the importance of advertising and marketing for small businesses and organizations, and I am mindful of limited budgets. I work with locally owned businesses and organizations to develop effective methods for reaching their audiences. You will see local Sponsored posts on social media from time to time. You may also see other ads on the social media pages, which are from Macaroni KID HQ’s National Campaigns.
